Unit 1
Focus: Addition and Subtraction Patterns
Overview of the topics to be covered in Unit 1
Key Vocabulary
-
Sum - The total, answer to an addition problem
At Home Support Games (Click on the name to play the game)
Deep Sea Duel - Collect cards that add up to a specified sum. Choose how many cards, types of numbers, and levels of strategy.
Key Strategies
- Number Rack

- Break Apart Numbers
Unit 2
Focus: Introduction to Multiplication
Overview of the topics to be covered in Unit 2 - Facts to 10 x 10
Key Vocabulary
-
Array -a way of arranging things in rows and columns
Key Strategies
- Array Models
- Thinking "groups of"
- Repeated Addition
- Skip Counting (2,4,6,8...)
At Home Support Games (Click on the name to play the game)
Bunny Times - Become confident in facts up to 12 x 12 using visual models that stress the conceptual aspects of multiplication.
Factris - In this Tetris-like game, players arrange falling blocks that can be reconstructed into different arrays. Doing so allows them to explore array building and factorization.
Unit 3
Focus: Multi-Digit Addition & Subtraction
Overview of the topics to be covered:
Continue to practice addition and subtraction
Round multi-digit numbers and estimate their sums and differences
Add and subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers using algorithms and other methods
Key Vocabulary
- Rounding- approximating a number to a specific place value
- Estimate- a close guess of an actual value
- Nearest Ten- rounding to tens place (50,80,20)
- Nearest Hundred- rounding to hundreds place (100,600,900)
Key Strategies
- Think of Base Ten pieces or number line to round
- Estimate Sums by rounding the number and adding
- Subtracting on a number line -taking away big jumps with place value (see document)
- Standard Algorithm
At Home Support Games (Click on the name to play the game)
Soccer Math - here are three different levels of difficulty: Tens & Hundreds, Tens, Hundreds & Thousands, and Tens, Hundreds, Thousands & Decimals. Get 5 correct in-a-row to take penalty shots!
Astro Blaster - Rounding & Estimation, Sums & Differences, Basic Facts. Destroy asteroids that contain the correct number in these math rounding games.
Math At Home Challenges - Challenges provided by our math curriculum and free to use at home
Unit 4

Match Analog and Digital Clocks- Match the analog clock to the digital clock by selecting from hour or half-hour intervals.
Mostly Postie - Click and drag package onto scales and enter weight in grams or kilograms
Liquid Measure- Click and drag pipe connectors and water containers so that the amount of liquid specified in a jug will drain into a container with the correct capacity.
Pecking Order - Arrange numbers from least to greatest on a number line. Work quickly and accurately to better your score. Choose from fractions, fractions & decimals, and fractions/decimals/percents.
The Ruler Game- Click on a ruler to identify the location of a given number. Choose from the following levels: wholes, halves, quarters, eighths, sixteenths
