Wit & Wisdom

Wit & Wisdom® is Kents language arts resource in grade K-5. It builds knowledge of key topics in history, science, and literature through the study of excellent texts. We implement this by reading and responding to stories and nonfiction texts.

Science

We want to help children stay curious. Students love to ask questions. They’re naturally curious about the world. We believe that if you take a child’s questions seriously and help them to investigate, their natural curiosity will develop into a scientific perspective on the world. The inquiry approach inspires students to ask questions and is focused on using and learning content as a means to develop information-processing and problem-solving skills. The system is student centered, with the teacher as a facilitator of learning. There are four parts to the inquiry approach.

  1. Students develop questions that they are hungry to answer.
  2. Research the topic using time in class.
  3. Have students present what they’ve learned.
  4. Lab-Based Approach to Science.

This year we will explore areas in:

  • Earth’s surface
  • Electricity, heat, and matter
  • Earth’s Living History

The recourses we use to support student learning are:

  • Smithsonian
  • Foss Next Generation.
