Helpful Links for Military Families
Student 2 Student (S2S) – Military Child Education Coalition
Student 2 Student (S2S) is a peer-led school program designed to help military-connected and civilian students feel welcomed and connected when they join a new school. Student teams help new students learn their way around, make friends, feel comfortable, and adjust to their new school community.
2 Key Services for Families:
- New Student Welcome & School Support – Student 2 Student teams welcome new students on their first day, provide a school tour and welcome information, help them navigate classes and important locations, and make sure they have someone to connect with at lunch.
- Friendship & School Connections – Students are connected with peers through social activities, meetings, and service projects. The program focuses on building relationships, creating a sense of belonging, and helping students feel comfortable in their new school and community.
Best for: Military-connected students who are new to a school or experiencing a school transition, as well as families looking for ways to help their child build friendships and feel a sense of belonging
Youth Sponsorship Program – Military OneSource
The Youth Sponsorship Program helps military-connected children and teens adjust to a new community when their family moves to a new duty station. Youth are paired with another young person who already lives in the area—often someone who attends the same school—so they can ask questions, learn about their new school and community, and begin making connections before they arrive.
2 Key Services for Families:
- Peer Connection Before a Move – Children can be matched with a youth sponsor who can answer questions about their new school, community, activities, and what to expect, helping them feel connected before they even arrive.
- Help Getting Connected After the Move – Youth sponsors can introduce new students to other youth, military youth programs, and activities. Families can also contact the new installation's youth program or School Liaison if they need help getting connected.
Best for: Military-connected children and teens who are moving to a new duty station or starting at a new school and may benefit from having a peer connection before and during the transition.
