Today is the start of Severe Weather Awareness Week and our meteorologists Ace Fridy and Clara Bowers are helping you prepare all week long. Lightning can strike miles away from the storm. Avoid open fields, the top of hills, ridges, trees, and other tall objects. Water is an excellent conductor of electricity, so when you hear thunder roar, go indoors. To know how far away the lighting is, count the amount of seconds from flash to bang. Then, divide that amount of time by 5. For example: 5 seconds equals 1 mile away. So when you hear thunder roar, go indoors.

Attention Creatives!!! April is Alcohol Awareness Month. It’s also a time when many accidents including fatalities occur among young drivers. With that in mind, there is an opportunity for your talents to shine and for you to send an important message about the dangers of impaired driving to your school. This April, the Roosevelt Senior Class will be attending the None for Under 21 and Choices Beyond Rally. The event sponsors a poster contest for interested students to create a piece of artwork that depicts the dangers of impaired driving. Entries could earn a cash prize award of $1000, $750, or $500 dollars for Roosevelt. If you would like to showcase your art and possibly win money for Roosevelt, see Mrs. Peoples Dukes in room 159 to pick up an informational flier. Entries must be submitted to Mrs. People Dukes by Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
