Make-Up Exams

The philosophy of exams dictates that they are to be given only at the time they are scheduled.  No semester or final exams may be taken early without administrative approval.  Excuses to be absent from final examinations must be obtained from the appropriate assistant principal at least one week (five school days) prior to the examination.  Such excuses are strongly discouraged but if granted, examinations will be taken after the scheduled final examination. If a student fails to report for a final examination and fails to make-up the exam, the teacher will give that student a 0% on the exam for the course.

VALUE OF EXAMS:  All students are required to take exams in all classes regardless of fees owed or books returned.  Semester examinations count 20% of the semester grade unless otherwise approved by administration.

SENIORS who need a passing grade on a final exam to achieve a passing grade in the course are required to take a final exam.  Teachers may choose to give final exams to seniors in their courses.  All students, including all seniors and December graduates, must take semester exams in December.

CONTENT & FORMAT OF EXAMS:  All teachers are required to give semester and final exams in all subjects.  Exams should align with content standards covered in the curriculum maps.  The assessments should gauge the extent to which the student demonstrates proficiency on the standards.  The nature of the exams may be traditional paper and pencil tests while others could be culminating projects or papers.  Exams could also be a culminating presentation.

EXAM PREPARATION:  It is expected that teachers review the exam process and techniques for exam preparation and any instructions that may be specific to their exams.  The exam schedule is designed to maximize students’ opportunity for achievement on the exams.

EXAM SCHEDULE:  The exam schedule is the same for both semesters. The dates and times of the exams are published on the Theodore Roosevelt High School home page by the Administration.  Please refer to the exam schedule to prepare for each exam day.

MAKE-UP EXAMS:  Make-up work and exams will be either the second and/or third exam day from 11:25 a.m. – 12:55 p.m. UNLESS SPECIFICALLY APPROVED BY AN ADMINISTRATOR.

BUS SCHEDULE:  The regular bus schedule will be in effect each morning during exam week. Below are the specific bus pickup times at the end of each exam date.

  • TUES. 12/20 -- 11:20 am & 2:30 pm
  • WEDS. 12/21 -- 11:20 am & 2:30 PM
  • THURS. 12/22 -- 11:00 AM & 12:15 PM -- Students who need lunch can grab a brown bag lunch prior to getting on the bus at 11:00 am.  Special Education students will take the bus at 12:15 pm.

In the event the weather forces cancellation of school (and this is a real possibility as we have learned from the past) during the examination schedule, administration, faculty, and students are responsible for the missed scheduled examination on the next day school is in session.
