Meningococcal Meningitis Clinic - May 4, 2022

VACCINE REQUIREMENT FOR 12th GRADE STUDENTS (for 2022-23 school year) -- The state of Ohio requires all students entering the 12th grade to have a second dose of meningococcal vaccine (also known as MCV4, Menevo or Menactra). If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is NOT required.

Meningococcal Meningitis

Meningococcal meningitis is a rare but serious infectious disease that develops rapidly and can claim a life in as little as one day. Of those who survive, approximately one in five are left with serious medical problems like amputation, deafness, and brain damage.  Teens are at increased risk of meningococcal meningitis. This increased risk may be due to activities like sharing utensils and kissing.  Vaccination is the best way to protect someone from getting this disease.

Health Heroes Nurses will be hosting a vaccination clinic at Theodore Roosevelt High School on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 with this vaccine. Please complete the Health Heroes Consent Form (English) or Health Heroes Consent Form (Spanish) if you are interested. Students will NOT be vaccinated without a completed consent form. This vaccine is also available at your child’s health care provider or some local pharmacies.  The vaccine may also be available at your local health department.

Students who do not provide documentation of these immunizations to the school by August of 2022 are subject to exclusion.  If there are medical/religious or philosophical reasons your child cannot receive immunizations, please contact the school clinic for an Immunization Exemption Form.
