Friend of Kent Schools

ron

Recently, Ron Burbick was presented a Friend of the Kent City Schools award by the Kent Board of Education. In addition to his longtime support of the Kent schools and community, Burbick helped underwrite the cost to send all fifth graders in the Kent City Schools to the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, part of the Art Bus Fundraiser.

Rosalee

Kent Board of Education recently honored Rosalee Hodge for her longtime volunteer work with Kent Instrumental Music Boosters, which supports the music department. She has served as president of the group for four years and as treasurer and recording secretary. In addition, Hodge has coordinated numerous fundraisers, made arrangements for band camp, planned out-of-state band trips and designed a keepsake senior program each year. H1N1 Update

Dear Parents or Guardians,

The health of your child is very important to you and to all of us in Kent Schools. By now you have heard and read about the potential impact of the H1N1 virus.

The Portage County Health Department has organized a plan to vaccinate all Portage County school students. Vaccination clinics will be set-up in the schools for a two-step inoculation process that is four weeks apart; the first inoculation is scheduled for November. Parent permission slips will be an important part of this process.

Even though more information is forthcoming, please review the tips H1N1 Fact Sheet  and Seasonal and H1N1 Flu Tips from Portage County Health District. As soon as the details are released about this free opportunity for Kent students, you will be contacted. Finally, be aware that your own family’s plans for receiving seasonal flu shots from your doctor do not need to be changed because the H1N1 vaccination may be administered regardless of when your child receives a seasonal flu shot.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joe Giancola

Alumni Association Updates

Our newly-organized Theodore Roosevelt High School Alumni Association is hosting a booth at Roosevelt’s Homecoming football game on Friday, October 16.  President Dave Wyse, ’77, invites all Roosevelt alums to stop by for light refreshments and take the opportunity to connect with former classmates—and join the Alumni Association!  Lifetime alumni or friend memberships are just $35, and seniors over age 65 are free.

Other officers include Vice President Sherry Joy, ’67; Recording Secretary Shari Jeffers, ’73; Membership SecretaryJennifer Anders, ’92; and Treasurer Paul Sellman, ’67.

All current or interested members are encouraged to attend an Alumni Association meeting on Tuesday, October 6, at 7 p.m. in the Roosevelt High School library.  The idea for an Alumni Association grew from the district’s five-year strategic planning sessions as a way to promote the tradition and pride of the Kent City Schools.

For more information, e-mail alumni@kentschools.net, visit the Alumni Association link on the district website at www.kentschools.net or call 330-676-TRHS and leave a message.
