Book Drive — March 18-April 5

Walls Elementary is having a

March 18 – April 5

Do you have books taking up space on your shelf?

We want the books your child has outgrown.

Please consider donating your child’s gently used books so another student can enjoy them. We are holding a book drive to collect books for our new K-12 summer reading program. New and gently used books can be brought into the school during our two-week book drive. The class that brings in the most usable books will receive a pizza party.

Send books to school with your child, or if you have more than will fit in a backpack, please contact the library to set up a day/time to drop off the books.

What type of books?

We are asking for any books that your child enjoyed (preferably popular books published within the last ten years). You can send: fiction, non-fiction, picture books, graphic novels, and biographies. Please do not include: text books, magazines, coloring books, old faded books, etc.

All usable books will be donated to the Summer Reading Program for Summer 2019. Students in K-12 are invited to join volunteers to read, use Chromebooks for MyON on the Mobile Learning Lab, pick a book to take home, and much more! This program is a response to Summer Slide, or the tendency for students to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year.

When and where will Rough Riders Read occur?

It will take place between 3pm – 6pm on select Tuesdays this summer. Look for the KCS Mobile Learning Lab!  Students are welcome to attend any and all of the sessions, but the goal is to have representation/participation around the city.

June 11 – RHS Natatorium     June 25 – Kent Recreation Center
July 9 – Al Lease Park
July 23 – Longcoy Elementary  August 6 – Location TBD

How can I find out more information about these events?

Please contact the planning team with any questions or comments about Rough Riders Read. More information on the program and how to make donations can be found at   We are so excited to offer this program!
