SMS Football Info

Dear parent or guardian:

We hope this communication finds your family healthy and safe. We are reaching out to you to update our summer calendar for Stanton Middle School Football.

Due to the procedures and protocols put into place to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 virus we have decided to adjust our summer schedule. The SMS football conditioning sessions will start on July 6 at 9:00am. We have moved the starting date from June to July with the safety and health of your child in mind. We decided to wait until July so that we can continue to monitor the start of the varsity workouts as well as the overall health here in Portage County. As a staff and as a school district, the safety of your young people are at the basis of all we are doing.

We have included an updated schedule for the month of July and August.

July schedule

August schedule

July 6th will start the conditioning workouts during the week. Our first official date for football practice will be Monday August 4th. All paperwork, including physicals will need to be completed by the August 4th date. (Please refer to district website for information on how to fill out Final Forms for the completion of the paperwork) Please keep in mind these dates could be adjusted in the future due to any other unforeseen circumstances that develop over the next month.

We hope to see your child on July 6th for the beginning of conditioning sessions. We are looking forward to the start of a great middle school football experience for your child. Please follow our Twitter account for any updates in the future. If you have any immediate concerns, please reach out to us through the Twitter account and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

The Responsible Restart of Rough Rider Athletics – Summer 2020

Good Morning Rider Nation!

We are moving closer to a Responsible Restart for Rough Rider Athletics for summer conditioning for all sports. Our coaches, medial staff and administrative team are in the process of finalizing our restart plans that will place the health & safety of our athletes & coaches as our number 1 priority. It is our hope to share our Responsible Restart plans with you by the end of the week in order to get our athletes and coaches safely back on our fields and in our gyms as quickly as possible.

Here are a few items that you should be thinking about moving forward:

  • Athletes should logon to FinalForms and assign yourself to the 2020-2021 sport(s) of your choice and electronically sign all necessary forms.
  • Parents should logon to FinalForms and update all personal information and electronically sign the necessary 2020-2021 forms.
  • Due to the inconsistencies of the spring semester academically, the OHSAA has removed the academic eligibility requirement for the fall 2020 season. This means all athletes, 7-12, will be academically eligible for the 2020 fall sport season.
  • The OHSAA will continue to require a valid physical for ALL athletes to participate in athletics beginning August 1st. Due to the social distancing requirements, Kent City Schools will not offer group physicals this year. So make plans now on your own to update your physicals.

Thank you for your patience during the pandemic and stay tuned for more information.
