Greetings Legacy Families:

We are working on the following:

MATH:

Miss Smich (KSU Student Teacher) has taken over the instruction of the regular Math classes. Students are learning how to model dividing fractions of Chapter 6.
We will cover the Algorithm in Chapter 7.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Working on skills in the Reading Perspectives Book. See Miss Canter’s Blog for stories and assessment dates.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

Buddism Project – due January 27th. Mrs. Geraghty will be in India from Jan 20th – 31st. Mr. Abel will cover the teaching duties while she is out.

SCIENCE:

Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter.

OTHER:
2nd quarter grade cards went home with your child today.

Continue to check your child’s Progress Book for grades and ask your child how they are doing with their Legacy Leader goals. It is your child’s responsibility to inform parents on their success or failure with the program. Students have to earn grading period parties. Contracts were sent home recently with students who need to improve in this area.

Legacy in the News! Friday, January 10th, 2020

Happy New Year Legacy Families,

We are working on the following:

MATH: Students will be taking Chapter 5 Test next Friday, 1-17-20. We will begin Chapter 6 – Modeling Dividing Fractions. Welcome Miss Smich,our KSU student teacher! She will be with us for Math for 8 weeks and then Science for 8 weeks.

LANGUAGE ARTS: My Perspective – students will be assessed on each story from the textbook. See dates of assessments on Miss Canter’s Blog. Students can now log in to OVERDRIVE – a online resource of free books to read 🙂

SOCIAL STUDIES: Completing Hinduism and starting a Buddism project. Mrs. Geraghty will be in India for a family wedding from Jan 21 – 31st. Mr. Abel will be taking over her instruction for social studies while she is gone.

SCIENCE: Unit test on Monday – Open Book on Atoms, Elements, and Mixtures. We will then begin lessons on Physical and Chemical changes of Matter.

OTHER:

2nd Grading period ends today – Grade Cards will go home next Friday.

Legacy Leader Program – Students now will have only 6 Legacy mark limit for 3rd quarter. Students must also not earn a “D” or a “F” in any academic classes and no suspensions issued from the main office/administration to earn the 3rd Grading Period Party. Students who have been struggling to earn the parties were given a contract for parents to sign that helps the student reflect and change what they need to do to earn the party. Ask your child how they are doing? It is your child’s responsibility to inform their parents of their status.
Parents can continue to check progress book for grades.

Greetings Legacy Families,

We are working on the following:

MATH:
Finishing up Chapter 5 – Area. We will start multiplying decimals after break. Miss Hannah Smich, KSU student teacher, will begin her experience with Mrs. Prelog the week we return from break. Welcome Miss Smich!

LANGUAGE ARTS:
Students turned in their Hatchet book this week and finishing up projects. The students will be utilizing the textbook again after break, so please remind your child to bring it to class.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Studying the religion of Buddhism.

SCIENCE:
Reviewing Atoms, Elements, and Mixtures. Students will take Vocab Quiz – Fri. Jan 10th.

OTHER:

We celebrated the 2nd quarter grading period party at Stow-Kent Bowling Alley today. Students who earned the trip attended. Congratulations to all of our Legacy Leaders!
The Holiday Shop was a great success! Thank you to all of you who donated items for the shop; much appreciated.

Quarter 2 – officially ends – Friday, January 10th.

Friday, January 10th – Early Release Day – students dismiss at 12:15 – teachers in-service day.

Greetings Legacy Families,

We are working on the following:

MATH: We took the Chapter 4 Test today. We will be working on multiplying fractions, mixed numbers and decimals to help prepare us to solve for Area.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Islam Text document due Monday. A large 3 religion unit test is Wednesday – students have a study guide.

LANGUAGE ARTS: Hatchet Group project – due Tuesday.

SCIENCE: Completed Element Poster – due by Monday at the latest.

OTHER: Bowling Trip – Legacy Grading Period Party – Stow -Kent Bowling Alley – Friday, Dec 20th.
Students who earned this trip will attend. Perm slips and $5.00 is due to your child’s homeroom teacher. Perm slips were sent home.

Thank you to all families that donated to our Legacy Holiday Shop – students will spend their starbucks that they earned through out the school year. The kids are really excited about it!

We are working on the following:

MATH: Completing Chapter 4 – Test next Wednesday

LANGUAGE ARTS: Hatchet – Graffiti Boards

SOCIAL STUDIES: Christianity – Story Boards due Tuesday

SCIENCE: Study of Atoms and the Periodic Table

OTHER:

Legacy Holiday Shop: We are taking donations of gently used or new items for our students to purchase with their Starbucks they have earned all year. We are also in need of wrapping paper and tape.
We will be shopping the week of Dec 16th – so just send in items and give to Miss Canter. Thank you so much, our students will love purchasing these items for their families and wrapping them 🙂

Legacy Grading Period Party – Students who earn the party will go Bowling , Friday, December 20th. Permission slips will go home next week. The cost is $5.00. If your child does not earn the party – they will be supervised here at school on that day. Ask your child how they are doing with their Legacy marks and grades.

We are working on the following:

MATH: Find the missing value in a ratio by using multiple strategies in the table method and double-number line method. After break we will be using tape diagrams and equivalent ratios.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Studying the Major World Religions and how they diffuse into other cultures. Judaism acrostic poem is due Tuesday,

LANGUAGE ARTS: Finished Hatchet this week. Miss Canter sent home a flyer about our “Holiday Shop” ask your child about this.

SCIENCE: Atoms and Matter

OTHER:

LEGACY HOLIDAY SHOP – We will be taking donations of gently used or new items for our students to purchase as gifts for their families. The items will be purchased with STARBUCKS the kids have collected over the course of the year. We will be collecting these donations for the next three weeks. Please just send them in with your child or drop off at the main office. We will also be in need of Wrapping Paper so the kids can wrap the gifts. The Holiday shop will be open to purchase the week of Dec 16th. Thank you in advance.

SCIENCE: Just completed unit on Weathering and Soil – took test this week over it. We will start a unit on Matter and Atoms next week.

We are working on the following:

MATH: We took the Chapter 3 assessment today. We will start Chapter 4 next week – Variables and Ratios.

LANGUAGE ARTS: Hatchet

SOCIAL STUDIES: Cultural Diffusion

SCIENCE: Weathering and Soil. Unit Test will be Thursday.

OTHER: Thank you to all who have attended parent/teacher conferences in the evening with your child.
The last day for conferences will be Tuesday, November 26th – during the day only. Please contact us if you still would like to schedule one.

Monday, November 25th – All School Reads Day.

No School – Tues 11-26 thru Friday 11-29 – Thanksgiving Break

Legacy Leader Program: Ask your child how they are doing with their Legacy marks? To earn the grading period party: Student must have grades of “C” or higher, no more than 8 Legacy marks and no office referrals to the Opportunity Room or out of school suspensions.

Greetings Legacy Families,

We are working on the following:

MATH:
Finishing Chapter 3 – Integers on a Number Line and Coordinate Planes. Test Chapter 3 next week.

LANGUAGE ARTS:
Working on completion of Explanatory Essay.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Test Monday – Human Environment and Interaction – students have a study guide.

SCIENCE:
Studying Weathering and types of weathering. We took a Vocab Quiz today. Starting the Nature of Soil and Soil Erosion next week.

OTHER:

Parent Conferences: Thursday, Nov 7th – For those that signed up. 5:00 – 8:00

Remind your kids to fill out their planners every class period and every day. Continue to monitor their progress on Progress Book and have conversations about their day at school.

We are working on the following:

MATH: Fraction, Decimals, and Percent Equivalency. Writing Ratios: Part to part and part to whole. Chapter 3 Test – November 8th.

LANGUAGE ARTS: Graphic Organizer for Explanatory Essay; using evidence from Unit 2: Animal Allies.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Human Environment and Interaction Project due Wednesday.

SCIENCE: We just completed lessons on the Earths Spheres. We will start learning about the types of Weathering next week.

OTHER:
Quarter 1 Report Cards were sent home with your child TODAY.

Legacy Leader Program : No more than 8 marks, Grades of “C” or higher and no office suspensions to earn this grading period party. Ask your child how they are doing with this?

Nov 7th – 5:00- 8:00 – Parent/Student Conferences for those that signed up.
