Branching Out for May 2021

Dear Students, Parents, and Friends of Theodore Roosevelt High School,    

 It has been refreshing to see so many of our students together again!  I am pleased to report how well our students are doing back in school four days a week.  Our resilient students have been great as they continue to wear  masks, and their excitement at seeing their friends and teachers is apparent.

   We appreciate everyone’s support through this unique school year.  The students, staff, and the Kent learning community have once again proven to be amazing and dedicated to our goals.  We are grateful for all those who tried to make the most out of this school year for our students.  Hopefully we will be able to end the 2020/21 school year healthy and prepared to take on the next challenges that COVID 19 or other societal issues we may present in the future.

We were really proud to host our Senior Prom, An Enchanted Evening, this past Saturday.  It was great to see the Seniors gather as a class and enjoy each other’s company. We are excited about many of the end-of-year activities for all of our seniors. Please refer to the TRHS Graduation Plan & End-of-Year Senior Events 2021 for details on those upcoming events. Each Career Technical Education program will hold an end-of-the-year Passport ceremony for level II students.   

As we close out the school year, we will be collecting chromebooks during the last week of school.  We will not have a final exam schedule this year.  We will end the year with normal school hours.  Many teachers may choose to end the year with a final summative assessment.

Students who need to get physicals for the upcoming school year should plan on attending the Roosevelt Sports Physicals scheduled for Tuesday, May 18, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Theodore Roosevelt HS.  This event is sponsored by our CTE Athletic Health Care & Fitness program.  Athletes planning to play a fall sport should attend the Fall Sports Parent and Athlete Pre-Season Meeting on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. 

Our school district is working hard to understand health risks and protective behaviors.  As part of that effort, we have the opportunity to participate in the OHYES! Survey.  The OHYES! Survey is a tool designed by the Ohio Departments of Education, Health, and Mental Health and Addiction Services and numerous other programs advocating for youth. Our school has decided to use this survey to understand more about our students. The online survey will be conducted with the Theodore Roosevelt Freshman Class on May 12, 2021.  The survey will be conducted on-line during their Freshman English Class.  An important informational letter pertaining to the survey, implementation, and Opt Out procedures was emailed to Freshman Parents/Guardians.  To view a copy of the Freshman Parent Informational Letter, (including OUP OUT information forms, deadline and procedures), or to read more about the OHYES! survey’s purpose, goals, and objectives please follow this link. 

We wish to offer our graduating seniors and their families a special thank you.  Congratulations to our seniors for their many accomplishments. We hope your experiences at Roosevelt have been memorable and rewarding. We wish you every best wish for continued success and happiness in the future.
