Dear Students, Parents, and Friends of Roosevelt High SchoolIt was a great weekend to be a Rough Rider! Our students enjoyed a fabulous homecoming weekend. All week our student athletes, band members, and cheerleaders were outstanding representatives of our school community. Student council along with Abigail Keller’s leadership did an excellent job of planning the parade and the fair prior to the football game. Also, on Saturday night approximately 800 students attended the dance. I am grateful to those who planned the activities and I am proud of the behavior of all our students who exemplified The Roosevelt Way.
We are so proud to offer congratulations to National Merit Semi-Finalists Rhiannon Bryk, and National Commended Students; Grant Jones and Yu-Ning Shiu. These exceptional students are rated as top high school students across our country based on their phenomenal PSAT scores.
Congratulations to freshman Madelyne Williams, who was chosen to be a hero patient during this year’s Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series Marathon, Half Marathon and Team Relay. The following link highlights Madelyne’s story.
A critical part of being successful at the high school level is often the ability for students to develop positive working relationships with their teachers. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Monday, October 21, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, from 5:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, November 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To schedule your conferences, please e-mail Mrs. Harris at email@example.com with the name of your student, the teacher you would like to meet with, and the time that works best for you. If you are unable to e-mail Mrs. Harris, please call her at 330 676-8700.
The first grading period ends on October 18th. On October 25th, students will receive their report cards during their first period class. We are very hopeful that our students do well and are rewarded for their efforts. Students and parents/guardians may view grades on Progress Book. To access Progress Book, please stop by the main office or call Mrs. Harris (330) 676-8700.
Please be aware that registration for May’s AP exams now takes place in the fall. Students must register for their AP exam(s) by November 4th by giving payment to Mrs. Kathleen D’Sidocky, RHS cashier. Each exam is $94, and checks should be made payable to Roosevelt High School. Please contact Randy Kline in the counseling office with any concerns. Exam fees are waived for students on the free/reduced lunch program.
We are all deeply concerned about the serious and even critical consequences around smoking and vaping among our young people. Our Student Assistance Coordinator, Jacquie Peoples Dukes, has provided us with some helpful resources.
This is just a friendly reminder to not park in the loop road in front of the building where the buses pick up and deliver students. During after school hours people have parked in the loop for school events or events scheduled at Roosevelt. That area is a fire lane and at no time should cars be parked there. Soon the Kent Police Department will start ticketing that area.
