New Mobile Learning Lab brings technology to schoolhouse door
A new Mobile Learning Lab brings the latest in virtual reality technology right to the schoolhouse door for Kent students. Using special Google devices and viewers in the Google Expedition Kit, students can take more than 500 virtual reality field trips without leaving the Mobile Learning Lab. A new 3D AVRover, purchased for the Lab, integrates 3D videos with virtual simulations and experiments to help students understand key math and science concepts.
The district purchased the low-mileage bus for a modest price from a northwest Ohio school, which had refitted it for use as a mobile classroom. It has heat and air conditioning powered by its own generator, as well as bench seating and storage. The transformation was funded by a $5,000 grant from the Mid-American Conference and program extension dollars.
