Kent State Basketball

Holden Hero

During the month of February we will be recognizing the contributions of African Americans from Kent.  We are looking to acknowledge those that live in Kent that have made impacts in our community as well as those that grew up in Kent that have made a larger impact  on the world. Please complete the form if you would like to nominate someone. We are looking for people that have displayed one or more of the following traits; risk taker, inquirer, open mindedness, communicator, reflective, and knowledgeable.   The nomination form has been sent home with students and sent in an email.

Tuesday, February 4 –  IOWA/COGAT Testing begins for 2nd Grade – Very important for students to be in attendance.  It is difficult to make up the testing and we only have a small window.  This is important for gifted results and other data for students.

2.  Key Maker Award – If you would like to recognize a Kent City School employee or volunteer that have made an impact in a student(s’) life, please complete the attached form.  All nominated individuals will receive a certificate.  

Kindness Letters

Kindness letters were given to Penny Edwards, Anija Taylor, Saffy Faiz and Madelyn Nestor in Mrs. Weitzel’s class for sitting with a student at lunch time who was by themselves. In Mrs. Yeager’s class Kira McKinney for always going out of her way to help her classmates with things they don’t understand and always being so patient. Also in Mrs. Yeager’s class Braydnn Lassiter for giving away an “Ooblock” to a student that was made in science class even though he won the chance to bring it home. Clara Costello in Mrs. Sweigart’s class for picking up crayons in library class without being asked to. Mr. Poole for being such a great Principal, setting a good example and making a lot of student’s day! And Ms. Schesventer, our cook for giving money to a friend so they could adopt a dog from the Animal Protective League and find a forever loving home. Keep up with the kindness!

A Few Reminders….

1.  Acme Community Cash Back Receipts are due by January 31st.  Please send them in with your child or you can drop them off in the container located by the front door.  Box Tops for Education will need to be turned in by Spring Break.  Please send them with your child to turn in to their teacher.  These are two ways to help Holden earn extra money.

Fast facts about the “No New Tax” Bond Issue #6

  • Kent Schools “No New Tax” will NOT raise taxes for homeowners but will keep students safe and maintain our community’s investment in our schools. Issue #6 appears on the March 17, 2020 ballot.
  • Bonds issued over 20 years ago to construct Stanton Middle School and renovate Roosevelt High School and Davey Elementary are maturing. Kent Schools is taking advantage of this opportunity to make needed improvements to all of our schools at NO new cost to our taxpayers.

Happy Holidays

I hope that everyone enjoys the next two weeks off.  Student’s first day back at school is Monday, January 6th.  

We did the ushering drawing for the family passes to Kent Movie Theater, Kent Wellness Center and Zip City.  Two of the three winners volunteered one time.  We are still looking for ushers for the rest of the basketball season.  The final drawing will be for family passes to Kalahari, Kent Lanes, and one other.

Kindness Letters

Kindness letters were given this week to Noah Dixon and Jake Typpo in Mrs. Weitzel’s class for helping all the students hook up their Chromebooks to the classroom printer.

In Mrs. Stronz’s class Jordan Reese for picking up a student’s breakfast he accidently knocked over and apologizing without being asked to.
