To the Kent community:

Roosevelt Concert Band and Wind Symphony played at Severance Hall

On Sunday, January 29, the Roosevelt Concert Band and Wind Symphony performed at Severance Hall! This was the first time that Roosevelt High School has been invited to perform at the Northeast Ohio Band Invitational. It was an outstanding performance in an incredible setting. We are so proud of the more than 300 high school students involved in marching and concert band, wind symphony, jazz and pep bands, as well as orchestra and choral groups.

ILEP scholars from the Philippines and Uganda are teaching at Stanton

Two teachers, who are part of the International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) at Kent State University, are working with our students at Stanton Middle School. Graziella May Decano from the Philippines is teaching with Sarah Canter and Jannet Nambaziiar from Uganda is teaching with Lindsay Potok. The ILEP program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and brings outstanding teachers from around the world to the United States to learn about the latest advancements in education. Kent City Schools has been involved for a number of years.

Area children’s author visits Longcoy Elementary

Conrad J. Storad, children’s author, editor and science writer recently visited Longcoy

Elementary in Kent. A native of Barberton, Storad lived in Arizona for 33 years and

recently relocated back to the area. Storad has published over 50 books, many of them about animals. He read two of his books to the students and talked to them about the art of writing. He also encouraged them to write and revise their writing assignments.

Thank you for your continued support of the Kent City Schools,

George Joseph
