Davey Preschool is an Ohio licensed, half day, Monday-Thursday preschool program for children ages three and four, and those turning five after August 1st, who live within Kent City Schools’ attendance area.

Davey Preschool is housed in a special preschool wing at Davey Elementary School.

Kent City Schools provides transportation to and from the preschool program.

Davey Preschool’s Integrated Preschool Program for Kent City School District children is an early intervention program for children with disabilities and typically developing children between the ages of 3-5 years old.

Children are identified as having special needs through a multi-factored evaluation which consists of a play-based assessment performed by the school team (school psychologist, special education teacher, speech pathologist, occupational therapist and/or physical therapist.)  Children with disabilities in our program have a wide range of needs including communication, hearing, motor (fine and/or gross), vision, cognition, adaptive behavior (self-help skills), and/or social/emotional/behavioral functioning.

A limited number of typically developing children are also enrolled in the Integrated Preschool Program.  Curriucla focuses on language development, social interaction, and discovery pay activities. The curricula follows the State of Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards.  Peer students attend at a tuition rate based on household income.

To be eligible to attend as a typical peer, children must:

  • Be at least 3 years old.
  • Be toilet trained by the first day of school (no pull-ups and independent with clothing, wiping, and hand washing).
  • Not have an identified disability that would qualify them as a student with special needs.

Davey Preschool believes the purpose of early childhood education is to enable young children to realize their unique potentials. Through a variety of instructional strategies, children are taught to explore and develop in many areas, including physical, cognitive, social-emotional, self-help, and communication.
