Dear Parents,

What another nice and warm weekend. I hope everyone was able to get outside and play on Saturday. We will try to get outside as much as we can this week. The kids really do need that fresh air.

Last week was our review week. The children graphed their favorite forms of transportation. They also wrote a book based on Duck on a Bike, by David Shannon. We talked a lot about AB patterns. By now your children are expert AB pattern makers! The creative kindergartners made some terrific turkeys by painting coffee filters as feathers. They turned out great! We also practiced some number recognition.

This week we will be introducing the letter and sound for Nn, as in nest. The new theme for the week is food and where it comes from. The kindergartners will be graphing their favorite place to eat and discussing our favorite food.

The children will construct their own totem poles. How exciting! We will also be talking more about Thanksgiving and how the Native Americans and pilgrims created the first Thanksgiving. The children will be creating their own Indian name and drawing their self-portrait as an Indian. We will continue to work on sequencing pictures and events. The children will write a story about what they would do if they were a turkey!

We will still be collecting items for the canned food drive this week. The kindergartners collected the most cans last week!! Raise the roof for kindergarten!

Oops! A mistake was made for Book-It. While trying to individualize, the assignment to read the books independently was copied for all students. For the month of November, most children will have to predict the ending of the story. Sorry for the confusion. Be sure to read, read and read more with your favorite kindergartner!

Calling all pet lovers! We will need 2 families to pet-sit Cuddles, the guinea pig, and Fluffy, the hamster. The animals travel with food, bedding and cages. If you will be staying home over the holidays and would like to pet sit either Cuddles or Fluffy please send in your name in writing by Thursday, November, 19th. This way we can draw names on Friday and send a note home so you will know that you are the lucky family. Please remember that if you are chosen to watch Cuddles or Fluffy you will need to pick them up either after school on Monday or during your conference time if you haven’t already had it.

Happily,

Miss Johnson
