IMPORTANT Immunization Info for 7th Graders & their Parents

MESSAGE TO PARENTS OF 7th GRADERS:

Ohio Department of Health state immunization requirements for
all 7th Grade Students:

A Tdap booster (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) MUST be
administered prior to entry into 7th grade.

NEW REQUIREMENT: The first dose (of the 2-part) Meningococcal vaccine is now required for all 7th grade students.

For your convenience, the Portage County Health Department
will be at SMS on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. If you would like your child to receive this required vaccine on the 4th of
September, complete the attached forms and return the forms
with parent signature to the SMS Clinic ASAP. Parents need not be present for the immunization, if the signed permission form
has been completed and returned to the SMS Clinic.

Please check with your child’s physician, or you can call Rita
Baker, R.N., District Nurse, at 330-676-8617 with any questions
regarding immunizations. Please send in the proof of having
received this vaccination.
Your physician will have this
documentation. Please send in your immunization records ASAP if you have not already done so.

This fall Kent City Schools will follow the state guideline requiring that proof of these immunizations be given to the school clinic by
the 15th day of school, which is September 5, 2018. If proof of
vaccines is not received by this date, your child may not attend
school.

6th Grade Back to School Night will be held on Monday August 13, 2018. Back to School Night is an event for only 6th grade students and their families. 6th grade students will receive a letter in the mail from their 6th grade team. Letters will be mailed on Friday August 3, 2018. In the letter will be the time to attend that team’s Back to School Night meeting. Please meet in the Stanton gymnasium at your team’s assigned time:

                Legacy Team: 5:00 p.m.

                Megaminds Team: 5:30 p.m.

                Buckeyes Team: 6:00 p.m.

All 7th and 8th grade students will be able to find out their team placements on Friday August 10, 2018 after 3:00 p.m. when homeroom lists are posted on the front and side doors at Stanton. There is not a formal orientation or Back to School night event for 7th and 8th grade students that were at Stanton last year. 7thand 8th grade students will not receive a mailing from their teams.

All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will receive their schedules and locker assignments on the first day of school. All students should report to homeroom on the first day of school for Stanton, Wednesday August 15, 2018.  School begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. 

Any students that are in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade that are brand new to the Kent City School District should attend an orientation on Friday August 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Stanton Auditeria. Families of new students to the district are also welcome to attend. This is not an event for students that were in the Kent City School District as 5th graders.

Updated 2018 Fall Sports Info

As updated info for Fall Sports becomes available, it will be listed below.

Parent Meeting: 
The Fall Sports Parent Meeting will be on Tuesday, July 31 at 7:00 p.m. at RHS. All players & parents are expected to attend.

Team Pictures: 
SMS teams will have Picture Day on Saturday, August 4.  Time will be shared with coaches at the Coaches Meeting on Tuesday, July 31, then shared with players/parents.

SMS Golf:
Golf tryouts have been set for August 1st & 2nd at Sunny Hill Golf Course from 9 am – 12 pm.  Please contact Coach Evans with any question.

Summer Reading Lists

One way to keep your student on track over the summer is to have them read, read, read! SMS Language Arts Department has a required summer reading list for each grade level (lists are below). These books are available at the Kent Free Library and students must chose 1 book from the list to read this summer. Each student will be required to complete a project related to the reading.
