Dear Students, Parents, and Friends of Theodore Roosevelt High School,

The 2017-18 school year is underway and it has been a pleasure to welcome all of our incredible students back this fall.

We have experienced two, extended-time power outages in the past two weeks necessitating a building evacuation.  Our community can be proud of the calm, mature, and focused reaction of our students.  We look forward to spending the year with this great group.

Our building improvement team has been working hard to create opportunities to increase student achievement.  The attached links:

Building Improvement Team Letter

Building Improvement Team Schedule (1)

is a letter that was given to parents at Follow the Schedule Night and the potential Wednesday early-release schedule.  Your feedback on this issue is important to us.

Weighted grades are another topic that was discussed by our department chairs and administrative team.   Last spring, we were exploring weighing grades for our advanced and advanced placement courses.  While we did not make this change for this school year, we will revisit this topic for the 2018-19 school year.  Regardless of the decision, we continue to encourage all of our students to challenge themselves.  Grades are important, but it is also important to ensure that our students are enrolled in rigorous courses that require hard work and determination.  Learning is a lifelong process and we trust in the power of education to guide us and help us to understand the world around us.

The Homecoming Dance is right around the corner.  We will use the breathalyzer test as students enter the dance.  The purpose is to deter students from attending the dance while under the influence of alcohol.  We used the test for the prom and were pleased that, as expected, not one student was detained.  Ultimately, we want our students to have a memorable, fun and safe evening.

Listed below are some important dates for September and early October events.  Please review them and also, please enjoy the many planned events and activities.
