BRANCHING OUT, August 9, 2017

August 9, 2017

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at Roosevelt.  I hope you have enjoyed a fun and relaxing summer.  While we will greatly miss the strengths and contributions of our 2017 graduates, we eagerly anticipate our next group of seniors who will now model “The Roosevelt Way” (Respect, Integrity Dedication, Excellence, Responsibility, and Service) for our underclassmen.  We have no doubt that they will rise to the occasion.

I look forward to welcoming our returning students and I am especially excited to meet our new ninth grade students.  Our staff works hard to create a positive school culture for each student.  Our goal is to make students feel comfortable, valued and happy to be a part of the Roosevelt family.  We are committed to helping all students learn the skills they need to grow both inside and outside the classroom.

We are currently planning to initiate a new program that will add to the positive environment at Roosevelt.  Beginning sometime this September or early October, we may be piloting an early release schedule.  Our staff will reserve the time between 1:44 to 3:00 on Wednesday afternoons for professional development, thus the early release time for students.  Research indicates that time spent for professional development in professional learning communities increases productivity in the classroom, collaboration, and student achievement.  The school day for students will end at 1:44 and students will be free to leave the campus. Transportation for students who wish to stay or who have a need to stay will be provided for students at 2:30.  Study periods will be set up in the cafeteria and library from 1:44 to 2:30.  There will be more information provided in the upcoming weeks concerning our early release schedule.

It is invigorating to see students are already showing their Roosevelt spirit and enthusiasm as evidenced by their involvement in band, preparation for freshmen orientation, athletics, fundraisers, and other various activities.
