Course Offerings and Descriptions

German I: Full year – One Credit – Grades 9-12
Prerequisites: None
Fee: $20.00

Course Description:

Emphasis is placed upon developing a strong foundation in listening, speaking, reading and writing the language. This will be accomplished via a multi-media approach, as well as traditional linguistic methods. Instruction will focus on students using the language in activities embedded in real-life contexts.


German II: Full year – One Credit – Grades 10-12
Prerequisites: German I
Fee: $2.00

Course Description:

The second year course is basically a continuation of the first year; the exception being that the student will delve deeper into authentic language use in real-life situations. The second year student is expected to gain holistic communications skills (verbal, listening, reading and writing). An emphasis in second year is placed upon expansion of verb tenses.


German III: Full year – One Credit – Grades 11-12
Prerequisites: German II
Fee: $2.00

Course Description:

German III continues to develop the student’s ability to speak, understand, read, and write using a multi-media approach and many authentic resources. Emphasis is placed on the using the language in a variety of real-life situations. All basic grammar is reviewed and expanded.


German IV: Full year – One Credit – Grade 12
Prerequisites: German III (‘B’ Average)
Fee: $2.00

Course Description:

German IV concentrates on expanding vocabulary and on more advanced grammar topics. Students read short stories and plays as well as material from contemporary sources, such as films, TV and the Internet. The course seeks to develop the advanced student’s ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Students will also study history and current affairs in the German speaking countries.
