Class Expectations
Mrs. McComas
How to be successful in CP English 11/12
Attendance
If you’re not here, you’re missing out! Students receive a zero for any assignments missed for an unauthorized absence. All work must be made up from authorized absences according to the school policy. Missed work is the responsibility of the student; in other words, YOU need to find out what you missed. Also, be on time! Detention/ loss of points will occur for repeat offenders.
Classroom Behavior
My expectation is that you will act with consideration toward your classmates. Expected classroom behavior is spelled out in your student handbook. Phone calls and postcards sent home may be used for positive and negative behavior, so behave!
Notebook
You will keep assignments, class notes, and tests/quizzes in a notebook or folder. Journals and writing assignments will be kept in a portfolio in the classroom.
Assignments/Grades
Assignments are expected on time. Late homework will not be accepted. Late projects and essays will be accepted up to two days late with a 10% penalty for each day after the due date. Your grade will consist of 20% classwork/homework; 40% projects, tests, and quizzes; and 40% writing. Grades will be calculated using the following scale:
A 90 – 100%
B 80 – 89 %
C 70 – 79%
D 60 – 69%
F 59 & below
Academic Integrity
My expectation is that all work turned in by you will have been completed by YOU… not your friends, parents, the Internet, etc. You will be given several opportunities to work in pairs/groups, during which time collaboration is expected. Otherwise, I will expect that everything you turn in will be your original work. Cheating/plagiarism will result in a zero for that assignment and a phone call home.
Tutoring/Extra Help
I will be available to help with make up work and writing during 7th period or during previously scheduled time after school. Also, I check my email at least once a day and at least once during the weekend. Remember to check my blog!
I am looking forward to working with you and having a rewarding year. Please come to me with any concerns, questions, or suggestions!
