Greetingsl!
The purpose of the Principal's Corner is to provide visitors to our website with information about Longcoy School. First, our vision statement is: All Longcoy students will learn. . .whatever it takes! To that end, our teachers work above and beyond on a daily basis to meet the individual needs of our diverse student population. This includes preassessing students' knowledge before teaching new information and then posttesting students after instruction has taken place to measure the academic achievement of each student. Students are then provided interventions or enrichment instruction based on their individual posttest data.
Second, Longcoy is a Kindergarten to grade five elementary school located on the west side of Kent, Ohio. We provide half-day kindergarten to one A.M. and one P.M. class. In addition, there are three sections each of grades 1 through 5. Class size is relatively small with most classes having 20 students or less. Also, students at Longcoy may join Safety Patrol, Student Council, Drama Club, Art Club, Recorder Club, or Fifth Grade Chorus. There are also many opportunities for students to demonstrate they are responsible by being kindergarten helpers, hall monitors, or office helpers.
Third, Longcoy School has an active parent organization called The Longcoy School Association (L.S.A.) and these parent volunteers help organize many fun family events throughout the school year. Some of the favorite L.S.A. activities include: The Family Dance, Scholastic Book Fairs, The Book Bistro, and holiday parties.
Last, student achievement is always at the forefront of every decision made by the principal and teachers at Longcoy. The educational program provided at Longcoy is unique, individualized, and has proven successful based on Ohio Achievement Assessment data over the last several years. In fact, Longcoy recently received the highest rating a school can earn from the Ohio Department of Education and that is Excellent with Distinction. We are the Longcoy Lions and we are proud of the instruction we provide our students, but most importantly, we are proud of the relationships we build and maintain with our Longcoy students and families.
In closing, please feel free to visit other links on our Longcoy website and remember: Students + Teachers + Parents = SUCCESS!!!
Thanks for visiting!
