Special Thanks

Mr. Horner

Words cannot express the impact Mr. Bob Horner has had on the Kent City School District and our students. Bob began a successful career at Goodyear in the advertising department, but missed teaching. He taught Sunday school to middle school students at his church for 35 years, while his wife sang in the choir. Education continued to be a missing piece of Bob’s professional life, so he met with college deans and created a class in creative problem solving, which he taught at Kent State and the University of Akron.
When Bob retired he began volunteering at Kent State through the R.S.V.P. program. 16 years ago Bob answered a call to volunteer at Longcoy Elementary School to challenge fourth grade students. He continues to be committed to students today. He maintains contact with those very first students he worked with, and continues to maintain relationships with past students.
His dedication shows through these statements by students who look forward to seeing him each day! Nathan Jones and Anna Larison both third graders at Longcoy know that he is really funny and he knows a lot of riddles. Gina Rock, fourth grade, remembers the riddles and the way he helped her learn. Jessica Sinn remembers a time when she got stuck on a math problem and he had a quick way to solve it.
Mr. Horner found a way to share his love for education, his dedication to students and his goal to be a teacher, all by giving his time to the students of Kent City Schools. Thank you for all of the years and we look forward to many more!
