THIRD GRADE BIOGRAPHIES (Hanger People)

Students in Mr. Draper’s, Mrs. Dunlap’s and Miss Thomasson’s third grade classrooms recently studied famous people and completed biography projects.  The students had to create a “hanger person” representing the person they researched and then come to school dressed as that famous person and make a speech to their classmates speaking in the first person.  It was delightful having several famous people “visit” Longcoy School such as:  President Obama, Queen Elizabeth, and Sakakawea!

FIRST GRADE FLOATS BOATS!

Mrs. Tonelli’s first grade class has been learning about types of materials that can be recycled.  In their classroom, they made a landfill and are watching how materials change over time.  Some of the materials are not changing, even when water is added.  The students were given a job:  build a boat out of any type of recyclable material or trash to see how the materials change in the water.  They added a challenge to see how many “penny passengers” their boat could hold before sinking; thus adding a little “engineering fun” to their designs!
