December 6th EWaste Drive was a Success!donuts

Special Thanks to Dunkin Donuts in Hudson and Ravenna for donating 10 dozen donuts from manager Gerald Park. Thank you to Dunkin Donuts in Streetsboro who donated 7 dozen donuts from owner/manager Jim Damicone. Last, but not least, thank you to Franklin PTO for purchasing 2 boxes of coffee and 2 boxes of hot chocolate.

We were able to collect about 1000 pounds of paper and three boxes of Ewaste materials. Thank you to all the parents and students who volunteered to work the drive and to all the families that donated. paperewaste

What is FFOP?
FFOP is a subcommittee of the Franklin PTO. We plan hands-on activities for Franklin students to practice earth-friendly behaviors. Any interested teacher, parent or family member is welcome to join.

What do we do?

1. School-wide recycling – working together, Franklin students, staff, and families recycle paper, cans, plastics, e-waste and cardboard. FFOP
helps by making sure the collection bins are in place and the recyclables are being picked up on time.
(If you’d like to drop off any of the above materials to be recycled,
just look for the FFOP logo).

2. Composting with worms – with the help of S.E.E., a local non-profit
that helps schools promote earth-friendly behavior (talklessdomore.org), Franklin students and teachers compost food
scraps in their classrooms. Students who want to help with this can
join the Franklin “Worm Wranglers” club.

3. The Franklin Wish List- Everyone at Franklin works hard to ensure our kids have the best learning tools. Check out the Franklin wish list to see if a
teacher or staff member is in need of something you have, but no longer want. By donating your items for re-use, your trash can become
someone else’s treasure!

4. We listen to your ideas to promote sustainability. Lots of great ideas
keep coming in from Franklin parents. An outdoor learning lab,
recyclable spoons in the lunch room, you name it, we’ll listen. If you’re
passionate about doing something to help the environment, come to one of our meetings and share your ideas. By working together, we can get a lot done!

When do we meet?

9/23/08, 11/18/08, 2/3/09, 4/21/09, all FFOP meetings take place at
7pm in Franklin library.
