Greetings From Longcoy School!

December 15th, 2010

Hello Longcoy Friends!

As we celebrate the holidays, close out 2010, and bring in the New Year, I wish you peace and tranquility during this very busy time of year, both at school and at home! After we return to Longcoy in January, school also becomes an academically busy time when students are learning the most difficult concepts and skills. It is during the winter months when students need to be even more diligent about applying themselves to classwork, homework, and their academic learning in general. Please be sure to continue checking your child’s bookbag on a daily basis, reading to or with your child each night, and reinforcing good homework habits at home. At Longcoy our school vision statement is: “All Longcoy students will learn. . . whatever it takes.” We take this statement seriously and we want to work together with our Longcoy families to make sure that every student is successful! Please communicate with your child’s teacher and ask questions when you have them so that we can remain a united team for the benefit of your child. Thank you for all you are doing to support your child and our school. We appreciate all that you do!

Remember:      TEACHERS + STUDENTS + PARENTS = SUCCESS!!

Sincerely,
Janice Swan

Hello Longcoy Friends and Families!

As the school year progresses, our teachers are teaching, our students are learning and our focus on engaging students in their learning and building positive relationships has been maintained! We are now in the second quarter of the school year and the academic pace at school has picked up. Classroom and building procedures are well established here at school and need to be at home as well. Students should be doing their homework regularly, reading nightly, and practicing their math facts daily! These routines will allow your children to achieve at their hightest levels. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the school office if you have any concerns, ideas, or suggestions for Longcoy School. We are a PRIDE-filled school with PRIDE-filled behavior and we welcome your feedback!  As the holidays approach, I wish you peace as you spend time with your friends and family!

Hello Longcoy Families!
Greetings and thanks for helping us have a great opening at Longcoy this year! It was wonderful seeing all our families on Supply Night and the ice cream social sponsored by L.S.A. was a “sweet” success! Our students and teachers are busy establishing the classroom procedures for the year and we recently had a PRIDE Stations Day where students learned specific behavioral expecations for certain areas around the school. On PRIDE Stations Day our students were divided into small groups and visited stations for Arrival, Hallway, Playground, Cafeteria, Bathroom, and Dismissal. While at these stations students learned how they need to behave so that they are exhibiting PRIDE-filled behavior!

As you know, we are the Longcoy Lions and lions live in groups called prides, therefore, our entire school theme is focused on PRIDE! Soon I will be mailing home a hardcopy of the PRIDE Guide that clearly shows the positive behaviors that we are looking for here at Longcoy. We want our students to succeed academically so we are teaching, modeling, and expecting exemplary behavior! We appreciate your support of our positive behavior initiative and would be happy to answer any questions you may have after receiving the PRIDE Guide. Last, please remember to check your child’s bookbag daily as this is where all the current information about homework and school happenings can be found. In closing, enjoy the beautiful changes of the fall season and feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or suggestions at the school office  330 676-8350 or via email at ke_jswan@kentschools.net.

Sincerely,
Janice Swan

Greetings and Happy Spring! As we wind down to the end of the school year, please be aware that learning is taking place at Longcoy right up until the very last day of school! The teachers will be assessing the students on year-end tests in reading, writing, and math. Students will bring home their report cards on the very last day of school which is June 4. Please continue to encourage your child to read and do their homework daily! Thank you for your continued support of the academic program offered here at Longcoy School.

Hello Longcoy Friends and Families,

December 29th, 2009

Happy New Year!
The teachers and I look forward to having our students back at school in January!   Hopefully, everyone had a nice winter break and enjoyed the time with special friends and family members.  Please realize that we are now entering into the most intense academic time of the school year. Students will need to be focused on learning and responsible for completing classwork and homework.  January is a great time of year to nestle in with a good book and to practice math facts using flashcards and/or computer websites.    Enjoy the beauty of the winter season and the return to the routine of school life.

Stay Warm!

Happy Fall!

October 26th, 2009

Dear Longcoy Parents:

Greetings!  I hope you are enjoying the beautiful Fall that we are experiencing in Kent this year.  It is hard to believe that the first grading period has come to an end and that the reports cards will be going home on November 6th.  Please be sure to review your child’s academic progress and to contact his/her teacher if you have any concerns.   The Fall Parent-Teacher conferences are still a few weeks away (November 23 and 24) but the Longcoy staff is willing to meet with parents at anytime.  Students are in the process of completing their quarterly assessments in reading, writing, and math and the teachers will be monitoring closely student performance on these assessments.  We continue to base our instructional program on the Ohio Academic Content Standards and to differentiate our instruction based on our students’ skill levels.  We appreciate all that you do at home to support us here at school and we thank you for making school the number one priority in your child’s life!

Remember:  Students + Parents + Teachers = SUCCESS!
