About Bridges

Students enter the Bridges Academy in the 9th grade based on their middle school academic, attendance, and/or teacher recommendations.  Additionally, students may opt to stay in the Bridges Academy for a second year.

Students stay with three of their four teachers for two years in a “looping” system.  This method allows for stronger relationships and an individualized approach to the students’ education.  Additionally, support services such as counseling, group therapy, student meetings with teachers (staffings), and a caring atmosphere provide students with the building blocks for academic and social success.

Teaching teams share a 200-minute block and adjust their courses to meet the needs of the students.  Through small group and individualized instruction and a project-based approach when possible, students are able to succeed, in many cases, for the first time in years.

The student-teacher ratio is intentionally kept low (approx. 10:1) to focus on building strong, positive relationships.  In many instances, students feel the Bridges Academy provides a “family” atmosphere for extra support.

Students participate in English, Math, and Life Skills courses during their 9th and 10th grade years.  Science is taught in 9th grade, and U.S. History is taught in 10th grade.  College Preparatory as well as Comprehensive level courses are offered.  The course content is identical to that taught at Theodore Roosevelt High School’s main campus.
